The Author's Corner
Vision & Mission Statement:
Reflecting on her consulting career, Krystal recalls crafting numerous Mission and Vision statements for clients. Initially, she found herself reusing generic statements across different clients, only to realize that they lacked personalization and authenticity. This lesson parallels the importance of tailoring cover letters for job applications to the specific needs of the role and industry, highlighting one’s unique value proposition.
In her early writing days, Krystal was surprised to learn that submitting a manuscript wasn’t enough; she needed to present a compelling proposal outlining her book’s concept. This experience underscored the significance of effective promotion in the success of a book, a realization that has deepened over the past 20 years.
Her vision is to become one of the top fantasy authors, creating stories that resonate with readers on emotional and intellectual levels, sparking self-reflection. Mission: Her mission is to challenge readers’ preconceptions by weaving relatable societal conflicts into characters and plots, encouraging readers to confront their stereotypes, biases, and stigmas through deeply invested characters.

Start writing:
Krystal marvels at how effectively pen and paper still work in today’s digital age. Despite the abundance of word processors, AI generators, and creative tools, simply jotting down ideas about settings, characters, and plots can ignite a flood of creative thoughts and inspiration. Reflecting on her father’s wise words about leaders struggling to see the bigger picture, Krystal recognizes the truth in his statement. She acknowledges how easy it is to feel paralyzed in front of a computer screen, fixating on getting the perfect start. However, she encourages writers to embrace the simplicity of pen and paper, urging them to jot down their thoughts without hesitation. Through this tactile process, Krystal assures writers that they’ll be pleasantly surprised by the depth of creativity they possess.
The Plot Twist Paralysis:
Ah, the dreaded Plot Twist Paralysis—the moment when your story takes an unexpected turn, leaving you stranded in a sea of uncertainty. As a seasoned fantasy author, I’ve faced this formidable foe time and time again. But fear not! In the face of uncertainty, I’ve learned to lean on my emotional resilience to guide me through. When confronted with a plot twist that leaves me grappling for direction, I turn to my trusty outline and notes, hoping they’ll shed light on the path forward. Sometimes, a fresh perspective is all it takes to break through the paralysis. I’ll revisit my manuscript up to the current point, immersing myself in the world I’ve created and seeking inspiration from the story itself. Additionally, I make it a habit to jot down ideas as they come to me, ensuring I have a treasure trove of inspiration to draw from when I hit a roadblock. So, fellow writers, take heart! With emotional resilience as our ally, we can navigate the twists and turns of our stories with confidence, emerging stronger and more inspired on the other side.

Journey Through Procrastination:
Ever find yourself trapped in the Procrastination Purgatory? It’s that nagging feeling when suddenly, everything else on your to-do list feels more urgent than facing the blank page. As a new breed fantasy author, I’ve battled this formidable foe time and time again.
But fear not! I’ve discovered the key to overcoming this creative hurdle lies in harnessing emotional resilience. While it’s tempting to dive into other tasks like social media content creation or household chores, I’ve learned to prioritize my writing goals.
By maintaining a checklist of weekly tasks and allowing myself to tackle them in manageable chunks, I strike a balance between productivity and creative fulfillment. Even when the words don’t flow effortlessly, I persevere, knowing that each small step brings me closer to my storytelling vision.
